Leica PowerDigger 2D – the highly flexible excavator guidance system
29 July 2010
(Heerbrugg, 29 July 2010) Leica Geosystems announces its next-generation 2D cutting-edge guidance system for excavators. Leica PowerDigger 2D expands Leica Geosystems’ patented unique PowerSnap concept, providing total flexibility and interchangeability of machine control panels and sensors between machinery such as excavators, dozers and graders.
Leica PowerDigger 2D is the new performance system within the PowerDigger portfolio , the result of 12 years market-leading experience with excavating guidance systems. The system is based on the well-known and reliable PowerDigger platform. Uniquely, the system allows multiple elevation and slopes to be constructed, at any orientation without resetting the machine or laser height reference. Additionally, Leica PowerDigger 2D provides unique safety features and the new PowerDriller function – ideal for maintaining verticality for excavator drilling attachments. Contractors benefit from a high machine productivity regardless of the application as the system eliminates over-excavation and grade checking, and minimizes downtime. It reduces costly rework and saves considerably on input costs.
Unique PowerSnap concept makes it easy to swap panels Thanks to PowerSnap, Leica Geosystems machine guidance systems are not restricted to just one machine. PowerSnap is a cable-free system that allows users to swap panels between traditional grade & slope and 3D machine control completely seamlessly as the job demands. Data communication via infrared and induction for power supply means maximum reliability and system uptime. Leica Geosystems provides machine control solutions for excavators, dozers, and graders which can now use the same 2D control box hardware with the corresponding software.
PowerSnap also lets new customers manage their investment path as they move into machine control offering complete backwards compatibility and affordable upgrade paths from traditional laser/slope control – all the way up to 3D GPS technology. Additionally, the easy removal of panels helps deter theft and vandalism – an ideal solution for rental machine fleets.
Outstanding performance and flexibility Leica PowerDigger 2D speeds up any excavating job und increases digging accuracy. The system provides users with full information on a rugged control box with a 3.5” full color graphical display, making it intuitive for operators, but allowing complex designs and profiles to be realized quickly and conveniently.
Leica PowerDigger 2D provides unique flexibility and is fully upgradeable. Customers can start with single grade operation and upgrade the system as needed to a full dual grade system by adding a rotation and a tilt-bucket sensor. Furthermore, contractors can use the same hardware installation platform for any machine type - be it a dozer, grader or excavator. The system also allows an easy upgrade path to a complete 3D guidance solution by simply using the same cradle and sensors, only a Leica PowerDigger 3D panel and 3D sensors need to be connected.
Unique safety features and PowerDriller function Using the system will also improve site safety and eliminate the need to enter the earthworks area for grade checking. Additionally, when working in potentially dangerous areas, e.g. under bridges and power lines or inside buildings, the operator can preset a maximum working height and will be warned when the excavator arm or bucket reaches the critical height. Leica PowerDigger 2D also features the unique integrated buried service detection warning. An EZiDIG cable detection sensor can be interfaced directly to the PowerDigger CAN connection. The operator will be alerted of buried services while digging by an audio alarm and a multi-level bar on the PowerDigger 2D display.
For vertical positioning of sheet piles or drilling post-holes, Leica PowerDigger 2D is also equipped with the unique PowerDriller function.
Availability Leica PowerDigger 2D is available now through all authorized Leica Geosystems’ Machine Control representatives, or the Scanlaser distribution network.
